Juan Camara is a FLI transfer student. He is a military veteran as well as a first-generation immigrant and college student. He is originally from Yucatan, Mexico but grew up in the Bay Area. He is very interested in doing research about how climate and environmental issues directly impact marginalized and vulnerable communities in the United States and around the world. Juan has a strong love for the ocean and would want to get involved in research regarding the effects of climate change on it, and how this can affect people living in coastal lands. He also has a strong passion for uplifting his community and mentoring students from underrepresented communities such as the one he comes from. Juan cares deeply about helping those students see themselves in higher education as well as in STEM fields.
