Faculty & Department Grant Applications
VPUE Departmental and Faculty Grants for Undergraduate Research introduce Stanford undergraduates to rigorous methods of inquiry, analysis, and creativity relevant to the academic discipline of interest.
- Support student training and learning through participation in faculty-designed research, scholarly, and creative projects
- Promote the inclusion of students in intellectual communities
- Help students develop the skills that enable more independent projects in the future
VPUE Departmental Grants for Undergraduate Research
VPUE Departmental Grants for Undergraduate Research support cohorts of students mentored by multiple Stanford Academic Council faculty members, each affiliated with the department, program, or research center submitting the application. Departmental Grant applications open by the first day of classes each academic year during the Fall Quarter. The deadline each year is October 31st.
VPUE Faculty Grants for Undergraduate Research
VPUE Faculty Grants for Undergraduate Research support a single student mentored by a Stanford Academic Council or University Medical Line faculty member. Faculty Grant applications open by the first day of classes each academic year during the Fall and Winter quarters. Deadlines are October 31st and February 15th each year. Faculty mentors with access to a Departmental Grant (see above) are not eligible.
**Important note: Faculty Grants MUST be submitted directly by the eligible faculty member and not a student or third party (e.g. PI, admin, staff member, etc.).
VPUE Departmental and Faculty Grants for Undergraduate Research are subject to VPUE's Faculty/Department Grant Eligibility Requirements. Please read these requirements carefully before applying, recruiting mentors or students, or designing projects.
Grants are used primarily to fund student stipends in two ways:
- Part-time stipends may support students in any quarter.
- Full-time stipends may support students during the summer quarter.
VPUE Departmental Grants for Undergraduate Research may also fund expenses, activities, and events that build a cohort or community of undergraduate researchers. Up to $250 per participating student may be requested.
Proposed expenses not pertaining to stipends or programming funds are rarely supported, and should be carefully described and justified in the proposal. More information on grant utilization can be found at the VPUE Departmental and Faculty Grant Administration web page.
Proposal Guidelines & Selection Criteria
