Program Overview

VPUE Departmental and Faculty Grants for Undergraduate Research introduce Stanford undergraduates to rigorous methods of inquiry, analysis, and creativity relevant to the academic discipline of interest.

Grants will:

  1. Support student training and learning through participation in faculty-designed research, scholarly, and creative projects
  2. Promote the inclusion of students in intellectual communities
  3. Help students develop the skills that enable more independent projects in the future

The Faculty Grant application opens the first day of classes each academic year during the Winter quarter. The deadline each year is February 15th. Eligibility

VPUE Departmental and Faculty Grants for Undergraduate Research are subject to VPUE's Eligibility Requirements. Please read these requirements carefully before applying, recruiting mentors or students, or designing projects.

Grant Funding

Stipends

Grants primarily fund undergraduate stipends for full time project engagement over the summer. This project engagement constitutes an experiential learning opportunity for students, and is not employment.

Programming Funds

VPUE Departmental Grants for Undergraduate Research may also fund expenses, activities, and events that build a cohort or community of undergraduate researchers. Up to $250 per full time student may be requested.

Proposed expenses not pertaining to stipends or programming funds are rarely supported, and should be carefully described and justified in the proposal.
